hi and welcome back my name is Jessica
likewise founder and CEO of hope
education services every week I post a
question about autism and ABA trying to
get you your questions answered so
tonight I’m gonna be answering a
question that a parent sent in and
that’s what’s the did what does it mean
when I hear the term of maladaptive or
dysfunctional behavior now these are
terms as a parent you’re likely going to
encounter I’m gonna be honest they’re
not ones that I particularly love and
really most ABA therapists are no longer
staying them ten years ago it was common
to hear them it’s not so common anymore
but a lot of times you’ll still see them
on assessments and reports and
thankfully they’re not that common
anymore so you may be a little confused
and maybe the first time you’ve heard
them so a maladaptive or a dysfunctional
behavior is simply a behavior that you
don’t want to see it could be hitting it
could be running it could be nail biting
it could be spitting it could be crying
any behavior you’re trying to reduce so
I know it’s not a term you hear often
but it may be when you encounter so
thank you for the person who sent that
in I hope it answers your question I
love to get your questions so you have
any more please email me at Jessica
Jessica likewise calm and check back and
